Years of Struggle
For Quah Chong Siang, living with PAD and CLTI has been a long and difficult journey. He had already undergone several procedures at different hospitals, but none brought lasting relief. Each time, the outcome was the same, his condition remained unresolved.
Over the years, he sought help from many doctors, both through recommendations and his own search. Yet most hospitals gave him the same answer: his case was too complex, and amputation seemed inevitable. The thought of losing his leg was devastating.
“I still work and need to support my family. Losing a leg was not something I could accept,” he said.
Finding Hope at Northern Heart Hospital Penang
A friend suggested he meet Assoc. Prof. Dr. Edward Choke at Northern Heart Hospital Penang. Though the hospital was new, it was already recognised as a specialist centre for heart and vascular care, with experienced doctors and a well organised system.
From the moment Quah arrived, he and his family felt reassured. “From the front desk to the treatment room, everything was orderly and comfortable. My family and I felt truly cared for throughout the process,” he recalled.
Saving the Leg
Meeting Dr. Edward gave Quah renewed hope. The doctor’s expertise was evident, and after careful examination, he recommended a treatment plan to save Quah’s leg from full amputation.
The right leg angioplasty and right foot debridement were performed smoothly. For Quah, it was more than a medical procedure, it was the chance to continue working, supporting his family, and living life without the fear of losing his mobility.
A Touching Gesture
As a memory of the successful treatment, Dr. Edward gave Quah a teddy bear, symbolising every patient’s limb that has been saved. Quah was deeply touched by this thoughtful gesture, which represented not only his recovery but also the compassion behind the care he received.
Grateful for a Second Chance
Today, Quah has returned to work and only needs to attend follow up appointments. His condition continues to improve day by day. He is grateful he did not give up and finally found the right team at Northern Heart Hospital Penang.
“The doctors, nurses, and staff are all highly professional, efficient, and kind. They truly made me and my family feel calm and confident throughout the treatment,” he said.
For Quah, the journey from despair to recovery was defined by one decisive choice, to seek care at Northern Heart Hospital Penang. What once seemed like an inevitable loss became a story of perseverance, expertise, and compassion, proving that even the most complex cases can find hope and healing.
