Condition: Coronary Artery Blockage
Procedure: Coronary Angiography with Stenting (PCI)
Performed by: Dr. Mugilan Sundarajoo, Consultant Cardiologist
From California to Penang
Hin’s journey with heart care began years earlier. In 2019, while living in Silicon Valley, California, he underwent his first stent procedure. Life carried on, but his history of heart disease remained a reminder to stay vigilant.
Fast forward to 2025, during a family holiday in Penang, Hin accompanied his mother in law for a consultation at Northern Heart Hospital Penang. It was then that he first came to know about the hospital and its reputation for excellence in heart care.
Chest Pain During a Holiday
As the family enjoyed Penang’s famous food, Hin began to feel chest pain in the third week of his one month holiday. Concerned, he scheduled a heart screening with Dr. Mugilan Sundarajoo over the weekend. Given his history of heart disease, Dr. Mugilan recommended an angiogram to assess the condition of his heart.
A Smooth and Efficient Procedure
The angiogram revealed the need for intervention, and Hin underwent Coronary Angioplasty with Stenting (PCI). The procedure was remarkably smooth, completed in less than half an hour. Hin remained conscious throughout, able to review and discuss the diagnosis results with Dr. Mugilan in real time.
“I decided to take the resolution right there.” Hin recalled. Four hours after the procedure, he was already walking and resuming his usual diet.
Recovery and Observation
Feeling better, Hin chose to stay on for another two days of observation at Northern Heart Hospital Penang. Dr. Mugilan supported his decision, ensuring that he had the reassurance of close monitoring before resuming travel.
Just five days later, Hin embarked on a return flight from Penang to San Francisco, making stops in Hong Kong and Osaka along the way with his family. He even took a picture at Kansai Airport, a personal milestone marking his recovery and renewed confidence.
Praise for Dr. Mugilan and Northern Heart Hospital Penang
Hin’s experience left him deeply impressed.
“I highly recommend Dr. Mugilan to anyone experiencing heart discomfort,” he said.
He appreciated the doctor’s open minded approach and willingness to listen carefully before making medical recommendations.
The efficiency of the hospital, the kindness of the nurses, and the clarity of communication all contributed to his positive experience. For Hin, Northern Heart Hospital Penang proved itself not only as a place of advanced medical expertise but also as a center of compassionate care.
A Message to Others
Hin’s journey carries an important reminder: chest discomfort should never be ignored, especially for those with a history of heart disease. His decision to seek immediate care prevented what could have been a more serious outcome.
By sharing his story, Hin hopes others will recognise the importance of timely medical attention and the value of trusted specialists like Dr. Mugilan Sundarajoo.
From Silicon Valley to Penang, Hin’s journey reflects the global reputation of Northern Heart Hospital Penang. With swift diagnosis, advanced treatment, and compassionate care, his holiday turned into a life saving chapter.
